They're different genres but yeah HP is sort of this bizarre bazaar of little goofy magic stuff and stereotypical mythic wizards without thinking almost any of it through rigorously. Lots of scifi like that too, of course, caters to a different audience I guess.

To be fair I don't think its good for the average person to get too interested in some utterly fake magic system and its complexities. Its a puzzle, hopefully kinda fun and kinda interesting.
