i've been pondering how to gamify my hobbies. my brain rejects video games because they feel like a pointless waste of time, but i still crave that sense of progression and daily grind so i want to turn my hobbies into real life video games. "gamification" is kind of a buzzword and the usual "just add points, achievements and leaderboards" misses the mark completely. real gamification is basically having an optimal learning path for an activity, the compelling part of a game is that it gives you achievable goals that orient action and helpfully guides you to the end through carefully designed cues and feedback. so the key seems to be well-designed quests and roadmap that balances cognitive load and a sense of progression.

theres sites that do that for a few things already. i always thought it was kind of goofy though. i have biological issues that effect motivation, task initiation, focus... a "system" isnt gonna do shit for me.

the sites are dogshit. they all reduce it to "points, achievements and leaderboards".
>i have biological issues
maybe. we started writing shit down because it preserves knowledge better than memory. you can always invent new tools and psychotechnologies to get around your biological limitations.
