^ sorta, it's mostly the same crowd that browses wizchan, but the rules are more lax. just think of it as a place to share your feels and shower thoughts, whether they're depressing or happy.

^ expect that's the issue. when you're young you lack the knowledge to tell what's a shadow and what's reality. and the more time you spend in the cave, the more time you'll mistake these beliefs for reality. at worse, you'll become a defeatist dep crab and never leave at all. some of these people even kill themselves. wizchan has one of the most active suicide boards on the web but what makes it unusual is theres almost no push back or oversight in the threads.

apparently outsiders saying thats weird are the strange ones though. again, under these beliefs if you don't agree with it you're just a "normie" and have lost credibility in the cave. leaving this (and trying to find something more positive) is itself taken as a signal to disqualify any evidence that the concepts might be harmful. so the community becomes a circle jerk that can never accept opposing evidence.

^ (cont.) your analogy would track with amish kids or like heavily homeschooled and sheltered kids. anyone that has spent their entire childhood in the hellscape that is public schools has the right to opt-out at 18 because they've seen all they needed to see, in my opinion. still, in my case, i gave it a shot and went to uni and even worked for a couple years, it didn't change my opinion of other people and it made me actively suicidal until i became a shut-in. young wizkids, from what i've seen, usually still have some positive outlook left in them, they still try to self-improove, they're willing to try anything just to be normal, but it often doesn't work out. the /dep/crabs you see are actually people in their late 20s, disillusioned by real life, wishing they never even tried so they saved themselves the extra trauma and false hope.

^ i understand what you want to say, it just doesn't track with reality. wizkids aren't born into a cave with no knowledge of reality, they've already been outside the cave their entire life and experienced a bunch of evil shit because they live in a dogshit world. then they go into the cave to protect themselves. then you come along, hey guys, why don't you come out? it's perfectly safe, all your stories are just illusions, you didn't actually experience all those things, you guys are just confused :D

^ what my post was getting at is more like plato's allegory of the cave. people chained in a cave, with a fire behind them, only see shadows on a wall and believe those shadows are reality. One prisoner escapes, discovers the real world and gains knowledge the others lack. but when he returns they dismiss him because his claims contradict everything they know and he no longer seems credible by the cave’s standards. this is basically wizchan in a nuttshell.

the cave is the self-imposed isolation of being a shut in, lack of real-world social interaction, and integration. its also lack of knowledge from being chained up in this situation. the shadows are the view of the outside world when you've never participated and only exist in a superficial sense. it becomes extremely hard to know what its like outside that cave. and if you try to tell anyone on the site theyll tell you you're a "normalfag" or that you "dont understand it."
