Imagine a person thinks they're incredibly attractive but they don't want to say it outright because doing so would reveal themselves to be vain, shallow, spiteful, and create a statement that can be attacked. So they only say it through veiled references like "homely." There isn't a direct English equivalent of the word "midwit" for beauty but I think it would be something like homely...

Midwit roughly translated means: "I believe myself to be incredibly intelligent -- more so than the person I describe. I also feel superior to them and consider them beneath me. In my mind, their views are stupid and worth disregarding." So I hate the term because it encodes the speakers own inflated opinion of themselves compared to another as a truth which is totally obnoxious. very much alike to redditors who argue about religion.
