that's why i appreciate brandon sanderson because he was sort of one of the only writers that really cared about making magic systems explicit and logical. redditors would say "but it's magic it doesn't have any rules by definition" but honestly, when a magic system doesn't have coherent rules, it's just lazy writing. harry potter universe is so dogshit at this, they have time travel and luck potions and god knows what and magic basically works whatever way JK Rowling needs for the plot to work. people enjoy HP for the characters, more than the world building.

They're different genres but yeah HP is sort of this bizarre bazaar of little goofy magic stuff and stereotypical mythic wizards without thinking almost any of it through rigorously. Lots of scifi like that too, of course, caters to a different audience I guess.

To be fair I don't think its good for the average person to get too interested in some utterly fake magic system and its complexities. Its a puzzle, hopefully kinda fun and kinda interesting. Don't take fiction too seriously you have more important stuff to deal with. Anyway I do afterall I have a WRENCH.
