for the past 5 nights ive slept without sleeping pills. I normally take mirtazapine to sleep but I had wanted to stop because even med I don't need to be on is another potential side effect I don't need to have. I have day-time drowsiness if I take mirtazapine. so I'd wanted to try stop taking or reduce my medications as much as allowable. trying to just replace them with life style changes or supplements that aren't as heavy.
for sleep i take:
taurine, magnesium, glycine, and fish oil. it works quite well.
i think my brain health has really improved a lot over time. all the things that i struggled hard to do have made simple things that much easier. before i could not sleep a wink without mirtazapine. that observation is extremely significant when mirtazapine withdrawal causes intense insomnia + ive had life long sleep issues.
i think to fix a lot of this stuff you need to improve health over all. and gradually things get easier.

>I have day-time drowsiness if I take mirtazapine
i think the reason for this is even if you force your body to sleep at a certain time (with drugs or other tricks), your internal clock is still unchanged and your body still expects to sleep at the wrong time, creating fatigue or sleepiness etc.
i wish there was a way to modify your internal clock easily, but all the advice is similar to mental health i.e. "force yourself to do it and hopefully your mind/body gets the hint".

^ i usually have no problem with knowing when to sleep. just got to make sure not to stay up too late. as i get older, i like to sleep now instead of trying to prolong the inevitable and feeling shitty.
